Beautiful Fools
By Shane Robitaille
I’m glad I ran with wild ones
who taught me how to keep it real.
I’m glad I ran with goths and punks
who taught me how to feel.
I’m glad I ran with sneering rebels
who questioned the status quo.
I’m glad I ran with whimsical poets
who taught me most of what I know.
I’m glad I ran with b-boys and b-girls
who taught me how to be kind and tough.
I’m glad I ran with some fiery angels
who taught me the most important stuff.
I’m glad I ran with brave women and men
who taught me honor and integrity.
I’m glad I ran with the hippy freaks
who taught me how to let it be.
If I met these beautiful fools again,
we would run wild, laugh and cry,
(probably break a few bottles),
and would have so much to say,
but most of all I’d give them a long hug
for making me who I am today.
